updating

I fisnied the whole order for Eden Yarns(the website will be up soon-sih, I got a peak at her front page rough draft and it’s lvoely!) so I was able to do a little updating in the shop, yay!

There has been Bamboo Haiku, Free Verse Sock, Cashprose and Sonnet Sport added as well as a cute pair of earrings, don’t forget to check out the Sale section, a few skeins made their way into there.

the difference in dyes

Handpainted yarn is a beautiful thing. But some people don’t understand why there can be such subtle or obvious difference from skein to skein of the same colorway. I’d like to point out one way. The dyes themselves. For example check out 2 of my spruces:

spruce

spruce

I forgot to take a picture but I did a small sample and the browner spruce dye powder produced a slightly greener spruce while the bluer dye powder produces a bluer spruce. They were very similar but different. I’ve since mixed the powders together to get an even dye job on my next few bathes of yarn that call for spruce. We dyers run into this more than you think. One especially frustrating one is Olive, sometimes the dye powder produces a more coppery brown and sometimes it produces a more camo green.

Just thought y’all would find that interesting.

May Sock Club

PDY Dead Poets Sock Club, May

Featuring Dogen

yarn inspiration-
The unspoiled colors of a late summer night,
The wind howling through the lofty pines –
The feel of the autumn approaching;
The swaying bamboos keep resonating,
And shedding tears of dew at dawn;
Only those who exert themselves fully
Will attain the Way,
But even if you abandon all for the ancient path of meditation,
You can never forget the meaning of sadness.

PDY Dead Poets Sock Club, May

And with that The Dead Poets Sock Club is closed for a while. I loved doing it and plan to open it up again in the near future!

Sock Club, March

This will be the last round of the Dead Poets Sock Club for a little while, the rest of the year at least.

This round features Zen Buddhist, Dogen, who is not like our typical poet, but his writing is beautiful.

PDY Dead Poets Sock Club, March

This colorway, Dogen, was inspired by his writings from the Wondrous Nirvana-Mind,

Even plants and trees,
Which have no heart,
Wither with the passing days;
Beholding this,
Can anyone help but feel chagrin?

December Sock Club

PDY Sock Club, December Shipment

Third pkg for PDY’s Dead Poets Sock Club featuring poet John Keats.

This colorway, Mermaid Tavern, was inspired by Lines on the Mermaid Tavern by John Keats

SOULS of Poets dead and gone,
What Elysium have ye known,
Happy field or mossy cavern,
Choicer than the Mermaid Tavern?
Have ye tippled drink more fine
Than mine host’s Canary wine?
Or are fruits of Paradise
Sweeter than those dainty pies
Of venison? O generous food!
Drest as though bold Robin Hood
Would, with his maid Marian,
Sup and bowse from horn and can.

I have heard that on a day
Mine host’s sign-board flew away,
Nobody knew whither, till
An astrologer’s old quill
To a sheepskin gave the story,
Said he saw you in your glory,
Underneath a new old-sign
Sipping beverage divine,
And pledging with contented smack
The Mermaid in the Zodiac.

Souls of Poets dead and gone,
What Elysium have ye known,
Happy field or mossy cavern,
Choicer than the Mermaid Tavern?
